This tour will lead you to a place with hundreds of Zebras congregating to drink and provide great photographic opportunities. There are numerous birds of prey in this area, vultures, owls and eagles. We will concentrate on game drives along the river which should be flowing still although it has a history of drying up.

Itinerary

Day 1Transfer from Maun to Makgadikgadi

Your guide will pick you in maun and a 3 hours drive on a tarred road will lead you to Makgadikgadi. Makgadikgadi Pans National Park covers an area of 3,900square km, where we spend 2nights in the Public Campsite, across the river from the village of Khumaga but separated by the Boteti River.

Day 2Exploring Makgadikgadi

The day begins with a wakeup call and then breakfast served and then head on for a game drive to experience the natural habitat, beautiful landscape as well as the wildlife. When we come back from the morning drive lunch will be served at the camping area. Later in the day we will sit at the Waterhole, the only one for miles around and very busy, if the rains haven’t started. Sunsets at the Waterhole can be spectacular, with animals silhouetted against the setting sun. We return to our camp after sunset and enjoy great food and drinks around a fire.

Day 3Day Trip and sleep out

After our continental breakfast we will start with our morning drive around the Boteti River and we will have a bush lunch in a picnic site. Then our drive will lead us to Ntwetwe pan for the sleep out under the amazing African sky for one night. The Ntwetwe is one of the three large pans within the Makgadikgadi, the other two being Nxai Pan and Sua pan. Ntwetwe pan is now a seasonal lake with filling occurring in the rainy season. Ntwetwe was first described to the European world by David Livingstone, pursuit to his exploration in this region. Significant archaeological recoveries have occurred within the Ntwetwe Pan, including Stone Age tools from people who lived in this area, in an earlier time of prehistory when a large year-round lake occupied the Ntwetwe Pan area within the Makgadikgadi.

Day 4Transfer from Makgadikgadi to Maun

After breakfast we will be starting to drive back to Maun where your guide will drop you to where you will be staying or dropping you at the airport if you are flying out.
