Itinerary

Day 1Maun International Airport to Okavango Delta

Arrival
You’ll be collected from the airport.
Accommodation before the tour starts can be arranged for an extra cost.
You’ll be picked up from Maun International Airport by a professional safari guide as you will be heading to the famous Okavango Delta via mokoro. Packed lunch, water and drinks will be carried with you. Arrive late at your camp spot, and the campsite will be set by African Jacana Safari Staff. Have dinner around the fire, and share your daily experience. You already started your safari.

Day 2Maun - Okavango Delta

Wake up early for a full breakfast before you join your guide for island-guided walks. The lush, fragrant vegetation and your anticipation of unexpected discoveries create a heady atmosphere. You’ll hear movement in the trees and see signs of animal life. Your experienced guide will identify animal tracks and examine droppings, giving insight into the way of life of the creature and its habits. Bird watching is a highlight on island walks, you can spot many migrants amongst resident birds, especially in the summer, and of course, there are plenty of wetland species to look out for. Islands can turn into breeding havens when the floodwaters have receded, revealing ample food supplies which were hidden under the water. You could spot long-toed, lapwings and herons amongst many other species. Return back to the camp for brunch before your afternoon activity.

Shower then have dinner in the evening and share your experience, before your good night’s sleep.

Day 3Okavango Delta to Khwai Concession

In the morning, the chef will prepare breakfast while the African Jacana Team packs our tents. We will then return via mokoro to Boro station and then drive to Khwai Concession. On our way to Khwai, we will enjoy a bonus game drive as we keep an eye out for nearby animals. When you arrive at the campsite, you will eat a prepared meal and then go on an afternoon game drive.

Khwai is a community-run reserve that is a really good area with good resident wildlife and beautiful landscape. Being community-run, Khwai also gives back to the surrounding villages so that wildlife and conservation also become an important part of the people living in the area. Khwai also allows off-road which might be a very good chance for you to see animals very closer.

Day 4Khwai Concession

Wake up early in the morning and have breakfast at the campsite before your morning game drive. We will carry bottled water, snacks and drinks as the drive will last for several hours. Later, you will return to the campsite for lunch prepared by the chef.

Our drive today will be in Kwai village. The animals here are attracted to the narrow ribbon of water that is the Khwai River, which makes for some spectacular wildlife viewing. This is an area where lions and leopards may be seen as well as a healthy population of plains game, including kudu, impala, giraffe and zebra.

Day 5Khwai - Moremi Game Reserve

After breakfast, we’ll transit to Moremi Game Reserve. It’s a full day, packed lunch will be carried with us.

Moremi Game Reserve is situated in the central and eastern areas of the Okavango and includes the Moremi Tongue and chief’s island, boasting one of the richest and most diverse ecosystems on the continent. This makes for spectacular game viewing and bird watching, including all major, naturally occurring herbivore and carnivore species in the region, and over 400 species of birds, many migratory and some endangered. Both black and white rhinos have been re-introduced, now making the reserve a ‘Big Five’ destination.

On arrival, set camp, shower, and have dinner before your good night’s sleep under canvas.

Day 6Moremi Game Reserve to Maun

After breakfast, we’ll be headed back to Maun with game viewing in transit. We will have a chance to see some of the animals we may have missed in Khwai. Upon arrival in Maun, you will be transferred to the airport.
